Planning Consultation
Land on the corner of London Road and Restalrig Road South, Jock’s Lodge, Edinburgh

Community Engagement

Welcome to our online community engagement with regards to the proposed development of student accommodation, including ground floor commercial space, with associated facilities on land on the corner of London Road and Restalrig Road South, Jock’s Lodge, Edinburgh.

This website forms part of the formal pre-application consultation process which is undertaken prior to the submission of a formal planning application to the City of Edinburgh Council in the forthcoming months.

The proposed plans are for the creation of a new high quality student accommodation development in the heart of Jock’s Lodge, which are being presented on behalf Alumno Group. The Project Team includes Barton Willmore, now Stantec (Planning consultants), Stallan Brand (Architects) and Orbit Communications (Public relations).

The traditional approach to pre-application consultation is usually through a public exhibition held in a local venue however due to ongoing restrictions as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic (which have now been extended until 30th September 2022), this has not been possible, and therefore in keeping with temporary legislation and guidance issued by the Scottish Government, this online consultation website has been provided as an alternative.

The website will include day of live interaction with Alumno and their Project Team on Wednesday 10th August 2022 between the hours of 12pm and 7pm.

The content of this website aims to set out the background to the proposals, explain our design approach and how the proposals for this key corner site have been developed using principles to maximise the opportunity to deliver a high-quality place that successfully responds to its context. The new building will make a positive and high quality architectural contribution to the site and locale, as well as help to provide an active street edge and corner junction with ground floor uses.
